1. Who we are
Gamero ("we", "us") is a weekly game jam website where people build browser games, play them and vote for Game of the Week. It is run by [Operator name or company], [Street, postcode, city, country]. Contact: [contact@your-domain].
By creating an account or using Gamero you agree to these Terms. How we handle personal data is described in the Privacy Policy.
2. Accounts
- You must be at least 16 years old to create an account. You can play games without one.
- Give a real email address and keep your password to yourself. You are responsible for what happens on your account.
- One account per person. Extra accounts used to vote, earn gamecoins or climb leaderboards will be closed.
- Your display name must not impersonate anyone or be offensive.
- You can stop using Gamero at any time and ask us to delete your account by writing to [contact@your-domain].
3. Games and other content you upload
"Your content" means games, code, images, texts, forum posts and anything else you upload. You keep ownership of it.
- You give us a worldwide, free, non-exclusive licence to host, store, copy, run, display and share your content on Gamero and to show it (for example screenshots, titles and covers) when promoting Gamero. The licence ends when you delete the content, except for copies in backups for a limited time and content other people have already quoted or replied to.
- You promise you have the right to upload everything in it, including third-party code, art, music, fonts and assets, under their licences. Credit others where their licence requires it.
- If you used AI tools to make your game, say so honestly in the AI disclosure.
- Players play your game for free on Gamero. You may not charge for access to it here.
4. Rules for game creators
If you submit a game, these rules apply on top of everything else in these Terms:
- You are fully responsible for your game. You alone answer for its content, code and behaviour, and for any claims, losses or legal trouble it causes to players, rights holders or us. If someone makes a claim against us because of your game, you agree to help us deal with it and to cover the costs it causes, to the extent the law allows.
- No external logins. Your game must not ask players to sign in, register or connect any account outside Gamero (for example Google, Facebook, Discord, Steam or your own server), and must not ask for emails, passwords or other personal data.
- No ads. No banners, video ads, pop-ups, sponsored content, affiliate links or ad networks of any kind, and no links or prompts sending players to other sites to promote something.
- No in-app purchases. Your game must not sell anything for real money, link to payment pages, ask for donations or tips, or take payment details. The only way to offer extras is with gamecoins through the official Gamero purchase dialog.
- Self-contained. Everything the game needs must be in the files you upload. Do not load code, assets or data from outside servers, send data out of the game, or use hidden or obfuscated code meant to hide what the game does.
- Your own work, honestly described. The title, description, screenshots and cover must show what the game really is. Do not copy or re-upload someone else's game, or use their names, characters or art without permission.
- Play fair with players. No tricking players into spending gamecoins, no fake buttons or dialogs that imitate Gamero, and no content that breaks the rules in section 5.
- Keep it working. Do not change a game after submission to add anything these rules forbid. Updates must follow the same rules as the original.
- We can remove or ban any game at any time. We decide what stays on Gamero. We may hide, remove or ban a game, take it out of a challenge or cancel its votes and awards at any time, including without notice when we believe it breaks these rules, the law or puts players at risk. Creators who break these rules, especially more than once, may lose the right to submit games or have their account closed.
5. What is not allowed
Do not upload, post or do any of the following:
- Anything illegal, or content that infringes someone else's copyright, trademark or other rights.
- Sexual content involving minors, sexually explicit content, extreme violence or gore without purpose.
- Hate speech, harassment, threats, or content that attacks people for who they are.
- Other people's personal data without their consent.
- Malicious code: games that try to break out of the game sandbox, attack visitors or our servers, mine cryptocurrency, track players, collect personal data or passwords, or load ads, trackers or code from outside sources to do any of that.
- Spam, advertising or links whose main purpose is to promote something unrelated.
- Cheating: fake or bought votes, vote trading, bots, faking scores or awards, exploiting bugs to earn gamecoins, or getting around limits we set.
- Attempts to access accounts or data that are not yours, or to overload or disrupt Gamero.
Mark flashing lights and other content warnings in your game details. Games are seen by players from 16 years old (and by visitors without an account), so keep content suitable for that audience.
6. Challenges, voting and awards
- Each challenge has its own theme, requirements and dates, shown on its page. Games that ignore them can be removed from the challenge.
- Voting results, Game of the Week and leaderboards are decided by the rules shown on the site at the time. We may cancel votes, scores or wins obtained by cheating.
- Titles like Game of the Week carry no prize in money unless we clearly say otherwise for a specific challenge.
7. Gamecoins
- Gamecoins are a virtual item for use on Gamero only. They are not money, have no cash value, cannot be exchanged back for money and cannot be sent to other players or sold.
- You earn coins as described on the Gamecoins page, and you can spend them on extras offered inside games. Each purchase is shown to you and needs your confirmation. Extras you buy work only in that game, on Gamero.
- You can also buy coin packs. Prices are shown before payment and include VAT where it applies. Payments are processed by Stripe. If you are under 18, ask a parent or guardian before buying.
- Right of withdrawal: as a consumer in the EU you normally have 14 days to withdraw from an online purchase. Coins are digital content delivered right after payment, so before you pay we ask you to agree to immediate delivery and to confirm that you lose this right once the coins are added. This does not affect your rights if a purchase fails or coins are not delivered. Write to us and we will fix it or refund you.
- We may remove coins earned by cheating, bugs or mistakes. If you pay back a purchase through your bank (chargeback), the coins from it are removed.
- If we close Gamero or stop gamecoins, we will tell you at least 30 days ahead. Coins you bought and did not spend will be refunded in proportion to what you paid.
8. Games made by others
Games on Gamero are made by their creators, not by us. We do not check every game before it goes live. Games run in a separate sandbox to protect your account, but play them at your own risk. A game can only spend your gamecoins after you confirm it in a Gamero dialog.
9. Reporting content and moderation
- To report illegal content, rights infringement or rule breaking, email [contact@your-domain] with the link to the content and why you think it breaks the law or these Terms. Rights holders should say what work is infringed and confirm they are the owner or act for them. This address is also our single point of contact under the EU Digital Services Act.
- We may remove content, remove games from challenges, cancel votes or coins, or suspend or close accounts that break these Terms or the law. We tell you what we did and why, unless the law stops us or it would put someone at risk, and you can reply to the email to ask us to look again.
10. Our service
- Gamero is provided as it is. We work to keep it running but cannot promise it will always be available or free of errors.
- We may change, add or remove features, and end challenges, as long as we treat paid gamecoins as described in section 7.
- Keep your own copy of your games. We are not a backup service.
11. Liability
We are responsible for damage we cause intentionally or through gross negligence, and for anything else the law does not allow us to exclude. Apart from that, and to the extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect losses or for content and games uploaded by other users. Nothing in these Terms limits your rights as a consumer under the law of your country.
12. Changes to these Terms
We may update these Terms. For important changes we will tell signed-in users on the site or by email at least 14 days before they apply. If you don't agree, you can close your account before then. Using Gamero after the change means you accept the new Terms.
13. Law and disputes
These Terms are governed by the law of the State of Illinois, USA. If you are a consumer, you also keep the protection of the mandatory laws of the country where you live, and you can go to the courts there. Please contact us first. Most problems are quick to sort out by email.
